Casually High-Waist

|| High Waist Blue/Green Pants: Know Style ||

These pants are literally my favourite anythings right now. Half the reason I haven't posted recently is because I've been chillin in these, a random shirt and a lack of make-up. Very comfortable for me, but not very interesting for you. That and I'm horrifically, disgustingly, horrendously, terrifically lazy. Anyway, I found these babies at this store called Know Style at our local mall. Terrible customer service, comfy as hell jeans. I have plans to go back and buy the other colors. Like, all of them. They're high waist (which I've only been looking for for about 2 years since I bought my first and only pair at H&M) and mad comfortable. They basically feel like leggings and if you know me you know I'd always rather wear leggings than jeans. The rest of the clothes I'm wearing in these looks are either old enough that I have no idea where they're from or - as per usual - are thrifted.

Thrifts & Gifts

Shirt: Gift // Cardigan: Thrifted // Shorts: Thrifted // Belt: Thrifted // Collar: H&M // Bow: Icing // Boots: Macy's // Socks: F21

As the title implies this entire outfit was either thrifted or a gift. As a poor college artist, I've always been intrigued by the fact that you can dress so well while spending so little. And as it turns out, I've become the living breathing example of that idea. Who knew. Not me apparently. It only occurred to me half-way through my day today that I was wearing basically all hand-me-downs. And this outfit was planned for a job interview, so that wasn't necessarily the intention. I got the job by the way.

Anyway, the semester is back in full swing now and I've got this snazzy new job. Not to mention the 'sketch a day' challenge I've given myself. So unfortunately my blogging is going to be limited to when I can squeeze it in among all of the above. In the meanwhile I suggest you go to a thrift store. The Goodwill's I've been to have been especially happenin'. There's a lot to be said for New Years and cleaning out closets I suppose. Good for thrifters anyway.

First Day Back

Shirt: F21 // Cardigan: Gift // Necklace: Plato's Closet // Beanie: Walmart // Belt: Goodwill // Shorts: Goodwill // Tights: Gift // Boots: Macy's

I had a really wonderful winter break and as a result was feeling unusually relaxed and prepared for the first day of classes. I usually go big on the first day because it's the first time I get to wear some of my new things and really go in on the make up yada yada yada. But to stay consistent with my chill attitude I decided to go with a laid back vintage look today. If I'm honest I haven't been as confident in my face with these twists as I am with my fro (that's when you know) and I'm still kind of trying to figure out how to work it, so the comfort goal was more than perfect for the chaos that is the first day back.

Even though I was going for an overall more laid back look, I still wanted to rock some new clothes. So I put together this little thing with some of the stuff I thrifted at Goodwill the other day. I'm am absolutely IN LOVE with this nautical belt and the shorts fit like they were made for me. Popped on my usual jewelry, new boots and favourite cardigan and I was feeling pretty fly. It worked too, I made a friend because she said she liked my style. The plan is pretty much to sweater it up and milk the short winter temperature for all it's worth before it gets hot in March. Georgia is so gross sometime..

Mini Thrift Haul

Knit Sweater: $5, Belt: $3, Jeans: $7, Striped Sweater: $5

So I decided to make a spur of the moment trip to Goodwill with my sister and a friend of mine. I usually don't care much for Goodwill cause it's rather expensive for thrifting.. but this particular one always has great stuff. I'm really super excited with what I found. I've had plans for a while to buy some black high-waist jeans to make shorts so that was an epic win. They fit like a glove and are fabulously comfortable. I may stud them or something, but I also like the idea of having a plain set of black shorts. I just want to collect shorts really, and stud and bleach and dye and mix and match the with tights and knee socks and whatnot. I have pretty simple needs. The belt was a lucky find. My mom gave me a belt like this with the chains and I love it but it's a little too dressy, so I really like this nautical belt because it's pretty but just casual enough to wear with shorts and a t-shirt. And of course I always look for sweaters when I'm thrifting. I particularly like the striped one for it's collar, and the purple one has a beautiful knit pattern with the partial button down front. Neither of which I have in my sweater collection.

Needless to say I'm in love.

New Year New Clothes

Jacket: Macy's, Boot: Macy's, Shirts: Nordstrom & Macy's, Jeans: Delia's, iPhone Case: Nordstrom

I think I made out pretty well this Christmas. I've been wanting a smaller pea coat than the heavy one I have, I've been wanting lace up ankle boots, I always want more button downs and socks, and GOOD LORD I must have been wanting an iPhone for at least two years now. All in all I think my family knows me very well. The main reason for the lateness of this post (besides me being on vacation and being beyond lazy) is that I've been wearing/using most of these things and couldn't get a photo of them until now. And being a college student means final exams and projects consumed my life between Thanksgiving and Christmas, so there you go. All my humble excuses for being absent are now laid bare.

Also can we all just take a moment to appreciate THE HOBBIT which came out on the 14th and guess who was there at midnight yeah if you guessed me you'd be right. So, in short.. A Good Christmas.

Inactivity

I feel it's quite understandable that I haven't been posting because Thanksgiving.. But I still feel a bit bad for letting my blog sit so quietly. So here's what I got. As Christmas is coming up, I've been doing a bit of present and ahem personal shopping (I mean let's face it those deals are too good to not buy something for yourself amirite) and I've found some neat shopping - mostly online - that I feel I should share.

WholeSale-Dress

This site is kind of hard to believe. They sell quality dresses and sweaters and whatnot for insanely cheap. It's like online thrift shopping sans the whole second-hand part. I found this site a looooong while ago, and I must say my favorite part of it are the sweaters. Anyway, it's worth a look if nothing else.

Looback

They don't seem to be that well-known, which is sad really because they have beautiful accessories for ridiculous prices and free shipping to anywhere in the world. I checked them out on the recommendation of CutiePie Marzia on YouTube - an adorable young Italian fashion guru - and I don't know how I've lived this long without knowing about this site.

Solestruck

I doubt there are many fashion addicts left out there that haven't heard of Solestruck. It's pretty much the place to go for all the IT shoe designers these days. Jeffery Campbell, Dolce Vida and Dr. Martens just to name a few. I AM IN LOVE with the shoes over there.

Chicnova

I don't really have too much to say about this site beyond the fact that they have mad cute stuff and I would definitely recommend you check them out. The stuff is a little pricey, but if you love vintage as much as I do it's worth a look for a piece or too. I personally love their accessories and the prices on those aren't too bad. But yeah, overall.. very vintage, very comfy, and very cute.

RiotLoco

This site definitely features more 'cutting edge' fashion, or at least as close as us commoners can get, heh. Their pieces are very interesting and DIY-esque; odd cuts, ombre and prints galore. Very Tumblr. They are a bit on the pricey side, which is the ONLY reason I haven't purchased from them yet. The Fashion Citizen over on YouTube have a few videos where they style some clothes from RiotLoco if you're curious to see them in action, so-to-speak.

And last but certainly nowhere near least...

ModCloth

My friend literally just showed this site to me today and I CANT STOP. They essentially sell my style left and right. It's brilliant! Again, a bit on the expensive side, but the dresses and prints and SHOES are just gorgeous. They seem to cater to a more vintage-y, girly tailored type sense of style, which I LOVE. Lots of classic cuts and retro patterns and cinched waist lines. I'm totally spamming my relatives with this site for Christmas, man. I need one of those dresses. It's just that serious.

Well, there you go. That's pretty much been my life recently besides work and school and Sherlock (yeah that happened) and Thanksgiving. I can only hope this will make up for the horrible lack in actual fashion posts until I can get the inspiration - or new clothes - to do a shoot. Meh.

Red Wool Fall

Shirt: JCPenney, Skirt: Gift, Cardigan: Thrifted, Shoes: Aldo, Necklace: F21

It was a mission this time. After running out at the last moment before sundown and nearly freezing to death to get the track side photos, Demi and I decided that a different approach was needed. So this time, we knew where we wanted to go and made sure we'd have the time before sundown to get there. And it was certainly worth it.

Although it was a warmer day than we've had recently, I was determined to wear this red wool skirt. My mom gave it to me and it's just such a beautiful piece; vibrant color and very well made. The shirt is - surprisingly - from JCPenney. I've never liked their clothes, But when I was there with my sister most recently I was surprised to see that they've completely changed their look. While not Zara status, there is now some nice stuff in there. This shirt among them, I just love the color and the material is very soft. I'm not much of a fan of color blocking, but for whatever reason I fell in love with this teal and red color combination. Once again, the ever fabulous Demi Wells of Astronaumica is responsible for these great shots.
